The Long Island Gold Triathlon/Duathlon & Relay is
one of Long Island’s longest running multi-sport events. Way back when, Henry
Krostich - who is still involved today and is the man with the megaphone at the
water start yelling at you to get out of the water – and several others came up
with the idea to run a multi-sport event in the North Shore area of Nassau
County. Originally planned for Great Neck, it was moved to Port Washington at
the site of a previous event.
The first year about 130 competed. Now in its 13th
year the event draws close to 1,200 competitors due to the incredible support we
have received from Neil Cook/Asphalt Green, Dan Honig/New York Triathlon Club,
Bob Cook/Runner’s Edge, Andrew Motolla/Brickwell Muti-Sport, Jose Lopez/Racing
Unlimited, J.P. Latkovic/Tri and Du-It Multisport, Jamie Fishlow/TriForAll
Triathlon Coaching, Sharon Levy/Excel Workout and Physical Therapy, Gerry
Olsen/Warren Schein/Ray Cross and the Town of North Hempstead, Chief DeMeo/Port
Washington Police District, Chief Walters/Port Washington Fire Department, the
Nassau County Police Department Patrol/Marine Bureau, the incredible volunteers
from The Great Neck Community Fund, and most of all the dedicated triathletes
and duathletes who come back to see us year after year.
It is great to see the same faces year after year
and we look forward to seeing many new ones this year.
